At Crown Point we make some color inks ourselves from pigment, but we don’t make black ink because we use so much of it and it requires heavy-duty mulling and grinding. Charbonnel black ink (55981) is a staple at Crown Point Press. Our master printers use it for hand wiping because the ink stays full and dense. We prefer this for drypoint because the quality of the ink is consistently rich and perfect for a wide range of marks from drypoint lines to fine aquatints. Charbonnel inks are specially designed for intaglio printing and do not contain additives.
