From the introduction:
“On July 3, 1997, four artists spent the afternoon at Crown Point Press drawing from a live model directly onto copper plates. Three printers etched and printed the images as they were made. The artists would draw, look at a just-pulled print, make changes, ask for another impression, meanwhile starting other drawings. They always worked on metal, not paper. ….
Why take this roundabout route to drawing, and why draw from the model in the first place? This little book addresses those questions.”
The four artists who were in the studio that day were June Felter, Fred Dalkey, Enrique Chagoya, and Nathan Oliveira. Their prints were included in a portfolio of fifteen etchings, Why Draw a Live Model? on which occasion this book was published.
