One-day Printing Workshop at Crown Point Press

Crown Point is offering a one-day printing workshop to those who have taken our summer workshops. Work at your own pace inking, wiping, and printing your already-etched plates with technical advice and guidance from Crown Point printer Arikah Conant. The focus is to work on printing a small edition of an image or two, and/or honing your printing skills and learning more about color printing. Like the summer workshops, participants do all their own printing and work independently with instruction from Arikah.
We will accept 3-4 participants per day and we are filling the day on a first come, first served basis. A minimum enrollment of 3 participants needs to be met in order for the print day to be held, with room for a fourth participant. We will confirm your placement when the print day is full. The fee is non-refundable.
Printing techniques that will be advised on:
how to mix and modify etching ink for easier wiping
tarlatan and hand wiping techniques
plate and paper registration
chine collé techniques and application
What the day will look like:
The printing day begins at 9 AM and ends at 5 PM. We will take a one-hour lunch break from 12 PM to 1 PM, during which time the studio will be closed. Clean-up begins at 4:30 PM.
Upon arrival, participants should plan to get right to work. We encourage you to have an idea of what you will be working on beforehand so you are able to get the most out of the day. The following materials and equipment needed for the day will be provided: inks, solvents, prepared wheat starch paste, tarlatan, inking cards and knives and clean press blankets. Somerset rag paper and a selection of chine colle papers can be purchased from us the day of the workshop. You are also welcome to bring any of your own printing paper. Your final prints will be dried and flattened and will be available to pick-up or to be shipped (by Crown Point for an additional fee) approximately two weeks after the printing day.
